The fit-up & weld log is the part that earns its keep, because the shop days between a signed quote and an install day are the ones nothing normally records. One entry per shop day or per piece: who was on what at the bench, the material used and whether it came off a full length or the drop rack, the process — MIG, TIG, stick, flux core, plasma, oxy-fuel or the brake — what was fitted and what was welded out, what was checked before it left the bench (square and to the drawing, welds sound, ground and dressed, test fitted against its mating piece, ready for finish, or rework needed) and photos from the shop. It attaches to a job or to an appointment, so a day booked in the shop carries its own entry — and at the other end the install & handover sheet will not let the job be marked complete until the hot work controls, the anchors, the touch-up, the deficiency list and the customer’s signature are on it.
